This part of a youth worker’s job is the key to the youth’s development into a responsible adult. Consider the safety in the work and workplace. Youth leaders have responsibility for the well-being of young people placed in their care. They should take into account definite adult supervision, the physical risks of any activity, and whether unique emotional needs exist within the group in order to handle the situation very well.

On the other hand, no job description should be viewed as a perfect reflection of the job. Instead, the intention of a good job description, especially for the youth, is to distinguish the job or group of jobs from other jobs and to set outer limits. It takes commitment to keep up a job description as they may depict youths’ duties, skills, effort, leadership skills, and responsibilities, environmental and working conditions, education and the experience required. The youth should always take note of these guidelines in making their promising job descriptions, and take into consideration their skills and knowledge regarding the positions they are applying for.

I am very interested in Sociology for several reasons, and my success in achieving this goal has become close to an obsession with me. I will also study Human Resources, because this is part of the goal. Sociology is the scientific, systematic study of human behavior of groups and societies. Human Resources is meeting the needs of people.

For me learning and studying both of these courses will give me a degree in helping others such as I, who would like to get out of their present circumstance which could mean any number of difficulties that they are up against. Homelessness, abuse child/spousal unemployment, trouble with drugs and or alcohol are but some of the few struggles that we face on daily basis. I personally went through some of these troubles myself, and remained lost for a long time. If it wasn’t for the help of counselors, and the human resource agencies that were available to me I would not be in school right now, nor would I have a place to live.

By going through my own life problems and dealing with them, it is easier for me to see what others are facing, and I can be empathetic yet still offer my experience and hope to them, since it seemed my own situation was hopeless.

Today I have a place to live, attend college, work thirty hours a week, I am on the board of directors at the Santa Cruz Homeless Resource Center, and am actively involved in a 12 step program. For two full semesters I was also on the student senate at our college. Most of my goals I attribute to the help that I received, and taking a sociology class in our college. It was the people that were around that affected me to take action in the career that I have chosen to take.

I no longer stand on the side lines but take what actions I too can become involved in decisions that affect me and my community. By watching leaders who offer hope, and others who offer their time and love, of people with experience and wisdom, I have seen dreams and miracles come into reality for our community.

A large part of my success relies on my spiritual life that I participate in; it has given me the insight of giving back of myself. In this way my reward will be receiving in my spiritual life.

My success starts with my higher power who I call the Creator, then with me, then my family, then my community, followed by my nation. By studying these two subjects I believe that no matter where the Creator sends me I will be prepared to do his will to the best of my ability.
