Nurses are a highly respected and valuable asset to the medical community. There are a number of different exciting and rewarding nursing fields. One type of nurse that has become a popular career choice is the Travel Nurse. A travel nurse is a nurse that goes to various regions of the country, or internationally, to provide short term nursing support. Work environments can include hospitals, medical clinics, facility administration, medical rehabilitation, and more. Although these work assignments are short term, they are quite lucrative. Nurses are normally recruited to fill in for full time nurses on leave, on vacation, or to provide additional support during certain times of the year when there is an excessive work load.

Although a typical nursing assignment can range from days to months, it is usually about 13 weeks. The salary of a travel nurse will vary by experience and location of the assignment. A nurse will usually make about $25 – $35 per hour. Depending on the agency and employer, a nurse may be paid daily or hourly. As well, there will be a housing subsidy, compensation for travel expenses, and health insurance benefits. Those who choose a career as a Travel Nurse appreciate flexibility. One can work as much as they want and decide what type of work assignment they will accept. It is a great choice for new nursing graduates who want to travel and not be tied down to one work place.

Experience is a plus as employers want the nurse to be able to perform all tasks competently on the first day of the assignment. Joining an agency that matches nurses with short-term positions is essential to becoming a travel nurse. Agencies assist employers in most regions of the country with filling their short-term job positions. When a medical facility has a job opening, they will contact the agency. They will then match the job requirements with the candidate. The agency will arrange the interview, and once the nurse is hired, the recruiter will help with the travel arrangements, housing, and acquire the temporary state license. Registered nurses will benefit because their national board exam covers state requirements. The recruiter will receive a fee for their work. Sometimes a medical facility will try to recruit the travel nurse for a full time position if they have an opening and are happy with their work. There are hundreds of agencies that focus on placing travel nurses. Agencies will vary in their representation of employers, assignments, and locations. As well, there are travel nursing agencies that offer free education courses so nurses can stay up-to-date on nursing education and medical technologies.

When you have a career as a travel nurse, you have to maintain a current resume and travel plan. This includes keeping a ‘travel list’ such as important documents, travel papers…etc. Prior to travel, one should carefully check out the work destination such as the community, proximity to supermarkets, retail stores, and restaurants, and any personal safety issues…etc. A nurse should arrive a few days prior to starting the assignment to unpack and settle. The life of a travel nurse is exciting, educational, flexible, and very lucrative. It is a great career choice for those who enjoy helping people while experiencing new places and people.

The best travel nurse jobs can provide rewarding experience and exciting career opportunities in the medical field. Alternatively, your transferable skills are also applicable to numerous occupational therapy jobs.Article Source:http://www.articlesbase.com/careers-articles/travel-nurse-jobs-what-they-are-all-about-1782811.html

Physician Jobs Are Becoming More Popular in the Medical Community

December 19th, 2009

Any doctor that is just getting out of medical school has some very tough decisions to make. Do they go out on their own and start a general practice, work for a hospital or do they work in the private sector. Because of the economy, starting a private practice may not be the best move to make and looking at physician jobs is becoming more popular.

Physician jobs are now being looked at as a viable way to make a career for new doctors. There are plenty of things that make this avenue attractive. So much so that doctors with struggling practices are closing their doors and seeking out physician jobs. When researching different companies, there are plenty of benefits to look for that will benefit the doctor.

The private practices are quickly falling by the wayside these days. The competition is so heated, that a new doctor does not stand a chance against a doctor that has been rooted in a community for decades. Watching those school loan bills come in does not make this a risk that many are now willing to take.

Even an established doctor can have a large practice, but if his patients are not sick, there is no money coming in. An established doctor may have enough in reserve to continue to pay their staff, but this is not something someone starting out may be able to do. Walking into an empty waiting room day after will take its toll a doctor both mentally and financially.

While it may be considered prestigious to own your own practice, there are also a lot of headaches that are associated with it. All of that would be gone by taking a physicians job as the owner of company now has to worry about all of that. Every week the doctor can now look forward to getting a paycheck that they know will be there.

Licenses are something else that can be a lot to keep up with. Each specialty and area has their own guidelines for this, but they can often take a lot of the doctors or staffs time to make sure that they are current. For the most part, private companies will gather all of the doctor’s information once they come aboard and from that moment on, they will handle everything in regards to making sure all licenses are up to date and correct.

Another cost that doctors with their own practices must pay for is travel to medical seminars. When they are working as an employee, that cost will now fall under the institution’s responsibilities. Because they are actually working for someone else, they may have to get approval, but once that happens, everything gets turned over to their travel department.

There are plenty of doctors that go to medical school with the goal of being able to start their own private practice, but many of them are suddenly realizing the risks that are associated with this. Instead of putting themselves in danger of losing everything, they are now taking physician jobs to give them the stability that they need as they work their way from under the massive bills that are accumulated as they go to school and finish their residency.

How Can a New Physical Therapist Look For Employment?

November 3rd, 2009

As stated by the American Physical Therapy Association, the key duties of a physical therapy are to observe and assist patients with functional limitation, impairment, disability or other health related conditions to regain strengths. This professional also helps people to maintain fitness and health at all ages.

In order to become a qualified professional in United States, you MUST have a master or doctorate degree qualification in physical therapy. There are 8 different specialties that you can choose to specialize in, i.e. cardiovascular and pulmonary, clinical electro physiology, women’s health, pediatric, geriatric, orthopedic, sports medicine and neurology. Even after completing your education, you still need to go through the National Physical Therapy Examination in order to obtain a license. In general, most of the graduates from the accredited universities are able to pass the exam on the first try.

Once you have obtained the necessary license successfully, you are then required to start your practice in the real world. You need to find a place to work. Due to the high demand in this field, you can look for any job opportunity in local hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, etc. If you have gained clinical experience as an intern, it is much easier for you to get employed. If you don’t really like to work under an employer, you can choose to work on your own after gaining a few years of working experience. You can have your own practice and be your own boss.

In short, physical therapists are playing important role in the medical community. As a graduate from this field, you shouldn’t find any difficulty in getting yourself a job with stable income.

Physician Jobs In USA: An Overview

September 12th, 2009

With the highly demanding curriculum that it takes to be a physician, it’s important that the rewards are commensurate. No one wants to spend years in medical school trying to become a licensed physician only to discover that there are no job openings for physicians anywhere. Fortunately, the outlook for physician jobs in the United States is very good. If that is a career path that you’re interested in pursuing, you can rest assured that there will be jobs available for you.

In fact, job growth for physicians is expected to be well above the average for jobs overall. This is especially true for physicians who are willing to pursue a specialty, such as pediatrics, OB/GYN, or internal medicine. There is always a demand for more doctors who specialize, since they are perceived as experts in their fields. In addition, there will be many job openings for physicians who are willing to work in rural areas or areas with limited income. People often feel that there aren’t enough physicians in these areas, and always looking for more.

While it may seem like a practice in a low-income area would face problems, it is in some ways an untapped market. Many physicians avoid these areas because they do have their detriments, such as having to work odd hours and being separated from the medical community at large. However, since there is no competition, physicians in these areas can get an effective monopoly on patients.

Overall, healthcare is one of the fastest growing industries in the countries. It’s expected that by 2016, the number of practicing physicians will have grown 14% from what it was in 2006. With the population growing and people living longer, there is always a need for more trained medical professionals. In order to maintain their practice, it’s important for a physician to stay abreast of changes and advancements in the medical field.

There are other factors that may affect the demand for new physicians. For example, if legislation in the health care sector results in higher direct costs for patients, then people may be more reluctant to see a physician. However, if the healthcare system becomes more accessible to more people and their out-of-pocket costs decrease, demand for practitioners will skyrocket. Also, new advances in diagnostics and medical records may also improve individual efficiency of physicians. This makes it even more important for up-and-coming physicians to stay on top of changes in medical technology.

However, there is one major difference for modern physicians looking for new jobs. In the past, many physicians started their own practices. In the modern era, it is more common for a physician to take a salaried position in establish practices or health care clinics. This makes the barrier to entry for modern physicians significantly lower, as they don’t have to manage and maintain their own offices. However, those who have always wanted to own their own practice still have that option, so long as they are willing to put in the work it requires to get such a venture off the ground.
