January 21st, 2010

Only experience does guarantee professional success. Self-esteem is as important as the knowledge and skills. It helps in your professional life and makes your work more productive.
The job market is constantly changing and  you can not get stuck in your zone. You should always want to grow in a professional context.

Self-esteem is a feeling about ourselves and issues affecting the way we act and the acquisition of experience in both personal life and professional life. It is confidence in our thinking.

When you’re confident about yourself things flow normal. Self-esteem is an energy that leverages our strengths and also helps us in good interpersonal relationships, as more people show their happiness when they feel good in what they do. And who feels good about what does and especially enjoys it, develops self-confidence and self-control and just showing more optimism, new ideas and creativity. The higher our self-esteem, the more we grow.
Managers and business leaders should encourage their employees, so they feel motivated.

Be careful  that people do not confuse your self-confidence with arrogance. Use your emotional intelligence to expose your ideas in a way that does not look like you know everything. Always respect the opinion of other professionals, because we all have to learn.

There is no one formula for developing self-esteem, just accept new challenges, believe in your ideas and do not be afraid to expose them.

It is also important to have self-confidence and be motivated in your work because if you don’t you might loss your job in this times when it is really hard to find a good decent job.

Is Multi skilling need of the hour?

January 6th, 2010

The concept of multi skilling has been in vogue for a long time – since the arrival of small-scale entrepreneurs. Of late, with the emergence of global markets and multinational organizations, the concept has gained greater relevance. The onslaught of recession has brought a realization of the necessity and importance of multi-skilling across many fields. This has assisted many individuals to be nurtured and to grow along with their organizations. However, the trait of “multi-skilled” may be latent or underdeveloped in many people. For the former, multi skilling may result in the resurgence of a dormant talent and enable them to become a better and more productive performer; for the latter, necessary skill sets can always be learned and mastered according to the needs of their position in the organization.

It is imperative to know the basics of multi skilling:

  • The need to understand the competencies of the employees and develop a plan to engage each individual.
  • The need for a clear idea of the work schedule
  • Organization of jobs on the basis of their importance
  • Develop open-mindedness which, in turn, will help one acquire more knowledge of various associated fields of operation

Multi skilling opens new vistas for an individual to excel in related fields of work. In the current environment, the work profile is often much different from the educational background of the job holder. When jobs are scarce and competition is strong, multi skilling offers a unique way forward for employees to survive in their jobs and their organizations.

When knowledge gained from one’s education and its practical aspects are put together, the results will be gratifying: that is, the theory learned should complement the application. This in turn, increases the competence level and will pave the way for people to explore different fields of their interest and choice. Multi skilling will help to develop one’s self-confidence and improvisational skills. It also shows the efficiency of an individual in various sectors of work.

Multi skilling can also play an important role in an organization. During economic downturns an organization may prefer not to have a lot of employees on its payroll. Manpower requirements will consequently be much less than under normal conditions. At this juncture, organizations resort to multi skilling, reducing manpower, but nevertheless still maintaining productivity. Delegating and sharing of work also becomes easy, and if the employee is good in his associated fields of work, it will help him hold a secure position.

In the present scenario, it is difficult to even know the reason for being laid-off.  Multi skilling will be a boon in such situations, where it will guarantee continuance of employment for the best. If an employee proves to be good in multiple fields of work, he/she is often retained by the employer and may even be given more responsibilities with additional pay and benefits. This becomes strong motivation and security for the employee, because it not only increases his/her pay scale but also brings opportunities to show their multiple skills, thereby making them a valued employee.

Multi skilling can, therefore, see the emergence of a wide range of abilities like flexibility, innovation and better communication skills that enable coordination amongst different departments in the organization. There is a popular saying that ‘an empty mind is the devil’s workshop’. Because multi skilling never allows a person’s mind to be empty, when they are tried and put to use, it will result in the betterment of not only one position but many.

Do I Need a Career Coach?

December 28th, 2009

In such a shaky economic time when the job market is faltering and competition is at its highest, you may be asking yourself, ‘Do I need a career coach?’ A career coach is a person who has been there and done that and then some. They often come from a human resources background and have been around the corporate block a time or two. They can offer you a great insight into what the job market is looking for and more importantly can give you a great insight into yourself.

Career coaches can help you in more than just finding a new job. Many career coaches are experts in helping you to assess what needs to be done in order to further your career right where you are. This of course is going to cost you money and you may be waffling on whether or not hiring one is really worth it. So when do you know if you need one or not?

Look over the following examples and see if any apply to you. If you are finding yourself saying yes to any number of these examples then you may need to consider a career coach:

•Disharmony in the workplace: Do you hate your boss or does your boss hate you? This type of disharmony is counterproductive for all involved.

•Feeling of instability: Do fear getting that dreaded pink slip on a daily basis? Living in constant uncertainty can lead to a whole host of other problems.

•Underpaid: Are you being paid significantly less than those that are in your area of expertise? Don’t settle for less than you are worth.

•Overlooked: Have you just been overlooked for a promotion only to see it go to someone you feel is less deserving than you? What do you need to do to stand out at work?

•Lay off: Have you recently been laid off and have no clue where to go from here? This can be especially tough if you are up in age and are lacking self confidence.

•Business start-up: Do you want to start your own business but have no idea how to go about that? Before you quit your nine to five to start your business you have to consider many factors.

•Emotional distress: Does your stomach constantly hurt when you think about going into work? Are you taking out your work frustrations on your family? No amount of money is worth your health or losing your family over.

•Progress stalled: Has your progress in looking for a new job or excelling at your existing one stalled? You have to know where to look and what to do in order to be successful.

If any of these scenarios described you then you may be in need of a career coach. Do you need one? No. Plenty of people have successful careers without them, but many others find that there is nothing better to help get their lives back on track. Many people are reluctant to go with a career coach because of the cost, but you have to think about a career coach as an investment in yourself and your future. The cost can be well worth it if the career coach can help you to once again believe in yourself and can help you to succeed in a cut throat job market or excel right where you are.

Pilot Training Institutes – The Breeding Ground for Budding Pilots

December 21st, 2009

Flying an aircraft is no mean task. It requires extensive training – both practical and theoretical. Lately, flying an aircraft has been considered as that for the adventurous and courageous types and has generated a lot of interest. This has resulted in mushrooming of pilot training institutes all over India.

Pilot Training Institutes train an individual on the various skills required to fly an aircraft. It teaches a pilot the process of flying an aircraft through the air with proper direction and control. It also teaches the students to understand the weather forecasts. A qualified pilot is supposed to be an expert in leading his crew and the passengers even in trying circumstances and a leader par excellence. Besides academic qualifications, a commercial pilot should have a sound mind in a healthy body, lot of courage, determination and self-confidence. There are quite a good number of flying schools in India that are recognized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and provide excellent training to individuals aspiring to become pilots.

One such pilot training institute is Chimes Aviation Academy, which boasts of providing pilot training on Cessna 172 and is also one of the best aviation academies in the country. Cessna 172 is one of the most popular flight training aircraft in the world. Beating the other aircrafts hands down, a Cessna plane has stood testament to time and held its ground as one of the most dependable and user friendly airplane in the industry.

This has made Chimes Aviation Academy as the breeding ground for commercial pilots.

Benefits of Pilot Training Institutes

The primary benefit of these pilot training institutes is that it helps the aspirant obtain a Commercial Pilot License. Commercial Pilot License authorizes the pilot to fly both passenger planes and cargo planes. Thus, these pilot training institutes enable commercial pilot to be well aware of his responsibilities which include mastery and control over the equipments and machines he handles, the ability to chart out flight timings and schedules and above all the dexterity and mental strength to land an aircraft to safety. With the opening up of the private sector for airline operations, the opportunities for commercial pilots have amplified by leaps and bounds leading to increase in the popularity of commercial pilot training courses in India.

Pilot training institutes also train the pilots to fly in international skies. With globalization, economic liberalization and a boom in the aviation industry, commercial pilots have got plenty of job opportunities in airline companies both within and outside India. However, a commercial pilot needs to have a certificate for flying in the country he chooses. With the highest number of airlines, the US is the most desired destination for most commercial pilots. Even UK, Australia and some European countries can also be happy hunting grounds for ambitious commercial pilots.

To conclude, the boom in the aviation sector and further opening up of the economy, these pilot training institutes are here to stay. It would not be a surprise if in near future, we see opening up of more top grade training institutes like Chimes Aviation Academy. Thus, average pilot training institutes should buckle up in order to compete with Chimes Aviation Academy type pilot training institutes as more competition is bound to come.
