Cheap and FREE CNA training

January 20th, 2010

Courses for CNA training can be very expensive but there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good. First of all, check your local community college for any training, this may be obvious but there are many cheap courses there. The college must be an approved college or you could be paying out for a qualification that isn’t going to get you anywhere as a CNA nurse. This shouldn’t be too hard to obtain from the college, so I recommend that you do this first. You won’t be able to test or trial any courses before you start and that means payment is up front. This may not necessarily be a lump sum but may be in the form of instalments.

If you are looking for cheap CNA training then you have come to the right place, the American Red Cross offer very affordable training. To qualify for this programme you will need to contact your local chapter and they will help sort this out. The nursing programme on offer will last for around five weeks and requires multiple characteristics such as confidence, dedication, self belief and commitment. Make sure that the course you are on is state approved and at the end of the day you will get certificate that is recognised in the nursing industry. All courses should be taught by state approved nurses.

Here is the part you have been waiting for, the FREE training. Yes there are in fact free training courses for CNA nurses, these will usually take places at nursing homes. There is always a catch though, in turn for the free training you must work for them for free. Both clinical and classroom training is performed on location and you could be fully qualified in a year. Of course this may not be the best option for you considering you will need to have another job to earn money to live. This may seem scary but on the job training can be a great way to qualify and from the start you are exposed to real life patients. The most efficient way to get involved and sign up with a nursing home is to phone them up and see if they have any openings.

Travel Agency School – What you need to know before you get involved

November 30th, 2009

While not a requirement, getting additional training at a travel agency school is becoming increasingly important.  This article will show you what you need to know.

Types of Schools

Becoming a travel agent isn’t a centralized vocation, like so many others.  This leads to there being a list of different kinds of schools that run long and wide.

Many schools and training programs wrap around a given specialization (such as cruise planning). This makes it easier for the graduate to monetize their new skill in the real world. Clients want experts these days… general travel agents are falling out of favor.

The length of your training will depend on the school you choose and your area of specialization.  Some last 2 years or longer, while others can be completed in less than a month.

Depending on the school, you may have at-home correspondence (for the busy professional) or possibly have to go to a local campus (usually a state run college).

What travel agency school is most popular?

There is no definite answer for this.  However, I will fill you in on three of the most popular destinations for training and certification:

ASTA – The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is renowned for their training and certification programs.  Prices vary, and they offer everything from basic courses to specialized courses (such as leisure sales) to frequent virtual seminars.

The Traveler’s Institute – These guys have been around since 1964, and have built up a good reputation in the mean time.  In addition to individual training courses, they also put together conferences to keep you up to date on recent developments.

Cruise Planners University – This is one of the specialization schools I mentioned earlier.  They recently released a two year virtual course to prepare you to be a Certified Cruise Planning Expert.  Many folks are saying good things about it.

Something of note…

If you plan on running your travel agent business from your home, going to an established travel agency school isn’t necessary.  In fact, it may be a deterrent.

Reason being, traditional vocational schools are geared toward preparing you to work for somebody else.  A cog in the wheel, if you will.

While this is perfect for those looking to work at an established travel agency, it leaves those looking to start an at home business in the dark.  Many of the things you need to know to be successful on your own simply won’t be covered.

Not to mention that traditional schools are expensive.

There is an alternative!!

Home study courses for the aspiring travel agent are a goldmine.  Not only do they cost less than a traditional school, they are often up-to-date and cover the information you need to be successful in today’s environment.

The three resources that I’ve heard nothing but good things about are offered by Amazon.  You can find out more about them at the link below.

Tips For Getting A Job After Being Laid Off More Than Once

November 17th, 2009

A layoff can make it hard to find a decent job, and multiple layoffs greatly amplify this problem and can make a job search feel like an impossible task. Unfortunately, many workers must deal with multiple layoffs and the inevitable job search that follows.

Of course, the economy is very often to blame for this difficult situation. Unfortunately, your potential employers are more apt to see problems with laid-off workers than problems with the economy. How do you stop employers from pre-judging you due to layoffs? Here are a few tips to consider …

Think About Taking On New Prospects

Whether you consider taking on new training to enhance your skills or even moving to a new area, there’s something to be said about considering new prospects when the old ones have fizzled out. Maybe losing two jobs in one city is a sign that the city itself is not the best place for employment in your field right now. Think about looking to other areas of your state or even other states to see if there’s a better job market that you could enter.

However, if moving is not on your agenda, you might consider enrolling in some training courses for your field while you’re in between jobs. Local career centers are a good places to check for free courses, and you might look to the Internet as well. Improving your qualifications makes you a more valuable hire, and it’s imperative to carry out these improvements during a long job search. Even if you’ve had multiple layoffs, if you can show that you’ve got a developed set of skills and abilities, you’ll be very hireable.

Make Sure Your Resume is Spic and Span

When applying for jobs after having been laid off twice in a short period of time, you simply cannot afford to have any blemishes on your documentation, including your resume. The poor state of the economy won’t stop your employer from wondering exactly why you were laid off, and they’ll scan your resume for problems, errors, and mistakes that could immediately take you out of the running for a position.

So as you write your resume, make sure to check for grammar, spelling and even font consistency. Have multiple people edit and re-edit your resume for errors. Employers are going to be looking at every minute detail. Errors on your resume will need to be absolutely eliminated if you want any chance of getting a job in your chosen field.

Consider Innovative Marketing Techniques

Being laid off more than once sometimes requires that you work ahead of the curve when applying for jobs. Try starting a blog that covers your industry of work, and email links around to anyone who might be interested. Consider starting a newsletter that you might be able to use to woo potential employers. The trick is to take the focus off of what skills you might not have and move it to your abilities.

Being laid off more than once can have a definite effect on your self-esteem. But by keeping a positive attitude about the experience, you can move forward into a better job position – as well as a better place in your life.

Need a job? Be sure your resume is the best it can be. Choose a resume writer that is best for you and your situation. Do it today at http://www.ResumeLines.com
